Thank you for volunteering your time to be a stroke and turn official

  • 1.This is a recreational league that includes and supports swimmers at all ability levels
  • 2.All competitions should be judged fairly and swimmers should not be able to gain an advantage by violating legal stroke technique
  • 3.While judging this meet, please keep in mind the following questions;

Is this swimmer making his/her best attempt to swim the stroke properly?

There is a wide range of ability to all of our age groups and we would like to make summer league an inviting experience for all swimmers, we encourage all swimmer to try new events at our dual meets, and acknowledge that not all swimmers will be legal in ever stroke. We expect swimmers 9 and above to achieve proper (USA Swimming) Stroke criteria, and believe they are prepared to be judge accordingly.

Is the infraction giving this swimmer a competitive advantage?

For example, knocking into the lane-line repeatedly or struggling to have their arms clear the water on butterfly likely will not be to the swimmer’s advantage. If a new swimmer is already struggling to complete a lap, receiving a DQ Slip can be very disheartening.

Is this swimmer likely to score points?

In the youngest age groups, one can generally assume that swimmers who are in the first few heats, whose infractions are not giving them a competitive advantage, will not be likely to score points.

Please also know that our swimmers are prepared to be judged more strictly by the time they get to the Championship Meet where USA Swimming Rules will be enforced. They will have competed in dual meets, received coach feedback, and will be entered in events in which they will excel (and they’ve shown to be capable of swimming without being disqualified.
